It is a great pleasure for us to be holding this Exhibition introducing Shinya Tanoue, a ceramic artist in Kyoto.
This past two and a half years since we met him, we have seen his artworks stimulate one’s imagination with newly-conceived shape and dramatic blue color.
The art works gives us an image of “shell”
Tanoue has been working on the concept of “shell” since 2007.
The shape is created with a coil technique and he add grooves to the surface using sgraffito.
The interior is often filed with pure blue.
Although the style is quite simple and pure, his works provide various impressions to the audience.
Some may feel that the “shell” which wraps us warmly and softly.
They also give impressions of beginning of new life, protect a life form, dynamic energy, and the origin of life…
But one thing we can say in common is that it raises the ultimate question of “what the life is?”
There is no accurate description, so we would like to discover each own impression through the concept of “shell”.
Even though he is considered as a young artist in Japan, he has been already succeeded dramatically in the world.
We believe that his distinctive works will continue to inspire us with their originality and beauty in the year to come.
